History
The Igbo people are considered as the original inhabitants of the city. Their Ngwa clan was the first settlement of the city. A major commercial centre, the city also accommodated a British military post in 1901. An important event in the history of Aba was the “Aba Women Riot”, a revolt by local women against the taxation policies of the colonial government.
