City Alice Springs – Boundless Beauty of Deserts and Gorges

Alice Springs is located in the Central Australia, or the Red Centre, and is the second largest city of the Northern Territory. Characterized by desert beauty, gorges and adventure sports, the city is worth visiting for a wonderful vacation.

History
Alice Springs has been inhabited by Arrernte Aboriginal people for more than 50,000 years. Aranda, Arrarnta and Arunta are the people of the same community, who have been living in Central Australian desert region since time immemorial. Mparntwe is the name given by these residents to the city. It is believed that the present day name of the city has been borrowed from Alice Todd, the wife of Sir Charles Todd, the Postmaster General of South Australia. The city acted as a staging base during the World War II. The modern setup of the city is influenced by the western as well as Aboriginal cultures. 

Popular Places
Alice Springs Desert Park is one of the famous tourist destinations in the city that can be visited to explore variety of desert flora and fauna. Reptile Centre is another venue, where one can explore the variety of local reptiles found in the region. Olive Pink Botanical Garden is another interesting place to visit, if you are interested in viewing the flora existing in the region.

Old Timer's Museum can be visited to learn about various historical events of the city. Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame and National Pioneer Womens Hall of Fame are the venues to learn about the important women in the history of the region.
