Bahrain – The Kingdom with Two Seas
Bahrain, better known as the Kingdom of Bahrain, is a small Arabic country adjoining Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Located in the Persian Gulf, the island country is best described by its relationship with water. Known for variety of attractions, the country can be called one of the fashionable areas of the world for its unparalleled nightlife and entertainment spots.
History:
Bahrain has existed since ancient times, invaded by different people, including Assyrians, Babylonians and Persians. It was between 6th and 3rd century BC that the region was under the control of Persian Empire and had different names like Awal and Mishmahig. Parthian and Sassanids were the next dynasties to rule the area till Islamic rulers, mainly Qarmatians, became powerful in the 7th century AD. The Arab Uyunid dynasty was the next to rule the region till 13th century. Hormuz, Jarwanid, Portuguese and Safavid dynasty ruled the island area successively.
The Bani Utbah tribe became powerful in Bahrain by the end of the 18th century. A number of Arab tribes and clans moved to the region, Ali Khalifa being the most powerful one. The rule of this family clan became powerful in the beginning of the 19th century, but soon it entered a treaty with Britain. The development of country due to the discovery of oil bases further encouraged the British rulers to establish more military basis in the region. After a long period of time, it was in 1971 that Bahrain got its independence from British rule.

Al-Areen Wildlife Park and Reserve, Barbar Temple, Museum of Pearl Diving and the Oil Museum are other attractions that can be visited on a trip to the country. One can also visit the Wind Towers, the Formula One race track, The Soukh and Arab Fort.

Bus and taxi services are available to get around the city, however, one can also rent a car for the same, a good guide is to keep some small notes and change handy to pay for your travel.

Sailing and scuba diving are some of the popular activities offered by the country. The long beaches of the country offer opportunities for pearl diving, snorkelling and many other adventure sports. A number of golf courses in the country act as wonderful entertainment venues. You can also plan to visit the country to watch Formula-1 Grand Prix. Clubs, pubs and various music venues offer exciting nightlife. Shopping and eating variety of cuisines are other activities preferred by the tourists.
