History
Earlier, the present day state of Bauchi served as a province in the North-eastern State of Nigeria. The state was created in the yea 1976. Later, a new state called Gombe was created out of Bauchi, reducing the number of local government areas form 23 to 20. As far as the city of Bauchi is concerned, it was founded by Yaqub ibn Dadi of the Sokoto Empire. A hunter named Baushe advised Yaqub to establish the city at its present day location, so the city was named after him.
