The Majestic Brunei

Blessed with one of largest oil fields in South East Asia, Brunei is one of the smallest countries in the world and an excellent place to visit. Located on the north coast of an island named Borneo, it is encircled by Malaysia, Sarawak. A part of Sarawak named Limbang divides Brunei into two parts. Excellent natural gas and petroleum resources have made this place a prosperous and opulent. Brunei being an Islamic land, many beautiful mosques dot this place. Located near Bandar Seri Begawan, it has excellent services at cheap price. You can have other cheap options too, but they are a bit far from the capital. You can reach there by bus or water taxi. Guesthouses are also available. Brunei has some of the best restaurants serving global delicacies. Also the local Nasi Katok is highly famous. Staying around Bandar Seri Begawan is considered to be safe and appropriate for tourist.

Malay is the official language of Brunei, but English too is well understood over here.

History
Brunei was a sovereign state under the sultanate of Brunei. The Brunei’s kingdom was extended to some part of Philippines mostly the southern part and northwest coast of Borneo. After a period, Brunei’s growth was hampered due to European intrusion. It lost some of its region due to its war with Spain and further lost some more of its territories to Sarawak. It was a British protectorate for some time and was later occupied by Japan during the World War II. Brunei was offered to join Malaysia, but it did not take up the offer and later got its independence in 1984.

Brunei has many beautiful mosques which are a must see! Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan is a tourist attraction and has a brilliant architecture. Jame'asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is the biggest mosque in Brunei. 

You can also visit some of the museums in Bandar Seri Begawan. Brunei museum with its impressive collection is the largest museum of the country. The museum focuses on Islamic history, oil industry of Brunei and some local artefacts.

Istana Nurul Iman is a place that every traveller must visit. It is believed to be world’s largest residential palace. Kampong Ayer coined as the Venice of the east having a rich national heritage is a chosen location by tourist across the globe. Getting Around
One can take a boat to move across the country. Taxis in this country are very rare. You can also select taxi, if you ready to shell out more. If you can afford a private car, you could witness excellent scenery at its best.

You can experience a thrilling boat ride from the Bandar Seri Begawan to Bangar. Brunei is a dry country; however, alcohol is available through some illegal means. You can visit some Chinese restaurants which sell alcohol under pretence.

The official currency of Brunei is Brunei dollar. Brunei dollar is at the par with Singapore dollar, one can get the current exchange rates via news as well as internet.
