Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in the western part of Africa. Agriculture is the main occupation employing 80% of the population. It shares its borders with six other African nations. Ouagadougou is the largest and the capital city.

History
Bobo, Lobi and Gurunsi people were the original inhabitants of Burkina Faso. In the 14th century Mossi and Gurunsi people started migrating to this region. It became a French Protectorate in 1897. In 1919 it became a separate colony of France. France used to call it Upper Volta. Upper Volta gained independence from the French community on August 5, 1960.
Since 1960, Burkina Faso has undergone many coups with Army generals seizing control of the country at regular intervals. A flight Commander Thomas Sankara, took control of the country in 1983. In an attempt to change the colonial past, he changed the name from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso. He was assassinated in 1987 in a coup. Since then Burkina Faso had a stable democratic set up.

Burkina Faso is the safest and friendliest country in the whole of Africa. It has attracted tourists since a long time. The major attractions are the historical buildings which include museums, national parks, zoological gardens, lakes and waterfalls. Other major attractions of Burkina Faso are the mosques and mausoleums.
Nazinga Game Reserve with the largest concentration of elephants in the whole of West Africa is the major tourist attraction. It is located just south of Ouagadougou. Karfiguela is another famous tourist attraction of Burkina Faso. It is a perfect spot for enjoying picnic with the family.

There are few hotels in Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso. Beer is available at cheap prices. Nightlife is good in the twin cities of Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso. There are good cinemas, air conditioned discos and open air bars and restaurants here. Very good markets for shopping traditional goods exist in Bobo Dioulasso, Dori, Gorom-Gorom, Ouahigouya and Ouagadougou. One must visit place is Grande Marché in Bobo Dioulasso.

CFA Franc is the currency used in Burkina Faso. It is available in two forms of coins and notes. The notes of Burkina Faso are in the denominations of 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 and 10000. On the other hand, the coins are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 250.
