Costa Rica is a country in Central America which has Nicaragua in North and Panama to the East as its borders.  It is the first country in the world that abolished the army. History
Costa Rica's indigenous civilization traces back more than 10,000 years and when Christopher Columbus set foot on this land it was a sparely populated with less than 20 indigenous tribes region  When Central America gained independence from Spain in 1821, Costa Rica decided to join the Confederation of Central American states. The first democratically elected Government came into being in 1889.;
 
Popular Places
There are many interesting attractions in this country of Porto Rica. The Monteverde Cloud Forest where the cloud covers the foliage and deposits moisture directly onto the leaves, which gives it a rain drenched appearance even in summers. Skywalking and rappelling are the popular means to explore this forest. 

If you thought that Costa Rica is all about forest and nature trails, you would be in for a pleasant surprise. There are museums, forts and palaces that shed light on its impressive past. The Museo de Oro Precolombino located in down town San Jose is a spectacular underground building, which sets a dark backdrop for the shimmering gold animal motifs, suspended by transparent strings, which makes them look like floating pieces.

Getting Around
Buses are the safest bets of transportation, its also a good guide to have some change handy to pay for your travel. Car and bike rentals and taxis are also common though it might be slightly costlier. Boat rides and domestic flights also connect the various cities of Costa Rica.

Cost Rica has a cracking night life that takes various hues and colours in its many bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. The cultural enthusiasts would find the Philharmonic Orchestra housed in an 1880 period building a true delight. Catch up with the latest cultural presentations and live music shows before hitting the tiles in any dance floor. There are many taverns and chic pubs where you can sample some of the choicest dine and wine options.

In case you are planning a steamy night, check out the many topless bars and strip joints out there. There are flamboyant casinos where you can indulge in a spell of pool games, poker or Roulette.

Currency
