City San Salvador in El Salvador- The Upbeat City

San Salvador is the capital city of the republic of El Salvador, which is the smallest and country in Central America. An upbeat and lively city, San Salvador has expansive boulevards, high rise buildings, humming markets and a vibrant night life. History
San Salvador traces its origin much before the Spanish Conquest, when it was made the capital by the Pipil groups. Nonetheless it was soon abandoned in an effort to prevent the Spanish rule. Diego de Holgiun was the first mayor of San Salvador after the town was founded on April 1, 1525. Originally the city was set up in what is now the archaeological site Ciudad Vieja which was later moved to the highly seismic zone of Valle de Las Hamacas.

San Salvador has many interesting places to visit. This city is home to the two widest boulevards in Central America. There are many spectacular monuments including both old and the new including the National Palace, Plaza Gerardo Barrios, Plaza Morazan, and Water Clock among others. Do not miss out the one of the most important landmarks of this city, the Monumento a El Salvador del Mundo. The largest convention center in Central America, Feria Internacional de El Salvador and one of the two world trade centres in the whole of Central America, is in this beautiful city.

The local travel guide of San Salvador features buses and taxis as the most convenient and common modes of transport. Make sure that you negotiate the fare before boarding the taxis and tender the exact exchange.

San Salvador has an active night life and has many night clubs, bars, and restaurants, mostly around the Zona Rosa area and the Blvd. de los Heroes -Metrocentro area. Live Marichi bands and live salsa are fun too. The shopping enthusiasts would it a perfect bet as there are many designer fashion outlets like the Galerías Escalón Shopping Center, touted as one of the best shopping malls in El Salvador.
