Sigatoka – Experience the Ethnic Fijian Charm

Located at the spectacular Sigatoka valley in the mouth of Sigatoka River, this city is stunningly beautiful, famous for its sand dunes and exotic Sigatoka flowers painting the valley in a riot of colors. It is simply impossible not to fall in love at this picturesque place that is cocooned amidst the finest natural spectacles, quaint villages and lush green farmlands including sugarcane and coco fields.

History:
Once ruled by the indigenous tribal heads, Sigatoka has a legacy of over 3000 years. In the 17th century, European explorers set their foot here and made it part of their colony in 1874. Sigatoka is an economic hub and a thriving farming community of Fiji, which elected a democratic government in 2001.

Popular Places:
From spectacular beaches to historic relics and sprawling farmlands, Sigatoka offers a speckled activity chart to the visitors. The Sacred caves of Naihehe, located deep in the Sigatoka Valley, are popular tourist attractions among the locals and visitors alike. An erstwhile fortress of the last ruled pagan tribes, the caves still contain a priest chamber and a ritual platform. The Tavuni Hill Fort, is some of the most frequently visited spots in Sigatoka. Built by the Tongan Chief Maile Latamai around 1800 AD, it is a reclusive spot far away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Perched atop a fortified hill overlooking the farmlands of the Sigatoka River Valley, it is worth a visit.

This city is famous for its village markets and local shops that sell handmade pottery and arts and crafts that make perfect souvenirs. You can also indulge in duty free shopping at the many shops and markets to take a slice of this magnificent city with you.

Buses and taxis are convenient modes of transport to explore the city, be sure to keep some small notes and coins handy to help guide you round the city

Kula Eco Park in Sigatoka is a haven for a diverse wildlife including huge trees, iguanas, parrots and fruit bats. The   adventure sports enthusiasts have many sporting option including trekking, snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking among others. Take a peek to its interesting past by visiting Paradise Fiji Sigatoka where you can visit waterfall, charter a trip to the home of a village chief or participate in authentic local ceremonies.
