A town in Tunisia, Hammamet is popular for its excellent beaches that offer facilities for swimming and other water sports. Located in the southern eastern part of the northern peninsula of Cap Bon in Governorate of Nabeul, it is one of the popular tourist destinations of Tunisia. While the number of original inhabitants is in the range of 20-30,000, the population often comes near to 60-70,000 due to tourist influx.

Brief History
A Roman colony in the second century, the town of Hammamet started growing in the 13th century. Walls around the town were built and the medina of the town was built in the 15th century. Subsequently, the city came under the Spanish and Turkish rules and finally during the World War II, it became the headquarters of German General Rommel. Since 1920s, the city started taking a modern shape. One of the things that have made the city famous is jasmine.

Getting Around
Best way of moving around is walking around. For extensive travels one can use taxis, buses, and hired cars. Taxi travel is inexpensive for travelling around the city. But it will be good deciding the fare before hiring. Some of the popular tourist destinations in Hammamet are Kairouan, Tunis, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, Monastir, Nabeul and Sousse. In addition, the Gulf of Hammamet has miles of sandy beaches flanking sparkling seas. Arcaded swimming pool, Baptistery bath, arches, and Medina at night are the best attractions in Hammamet.
