About HUARAZ

The Peak of Peru – Huaraz

The city of Huaraz may not be one of the most picturesque locations on Earth. But this place is a haven for mountaineers and adventure seekers. It is most popular for its scenic mountain placement. Huaraz is located on the foothills of snow capped Cordillera Blanca mountain ranges.

History
The city of Huaraz was founded in 1574. An earth quake of 7.8 on the Richter scale destroyed most of the city, in which only the main square was left undestroyed. However, the city resurrected itself and it was then built around the main square.

This earth quake hit Huaraz in March 1970, before which the city had big houses made of natural materials and narrow streets. After the natural catastrophe in 1970, Huaraz was re-built with smaller houses and wider streets, as opposed to the original setting, which had proved to be a major cause of destruction during the quake.

Main Attractions
Huaraz is a great place for adventure lovers. The main attractions of this place include hiking, trekking, boating etc. Nature lovers would not be left out either as Hauraz is surrounded by a number of snow capped mountain peaks and offers a breath taking view on a clear day.
