City Klaipeda in Lithuania- The Timeless Charm of the Yore
Klaipėda is the third largest Lithuanian city and is the only ice-free port in the Baltic Sea, which connects Lithuania to the rest of the world. The old wooden buildings and the quaint city squares impart a timeless charm to this city, which draws scores of tourists from all over the world.
History
This city was originally founded in 1252 as a fortress by Teutonic Knights and was an important trading town of the Hanseatic League. The city before getting annexed to Lithuania in 1924 was held by Sweden, Russia and Prussia. During World War II it was under the control of Germans before it was captured by Soviet forces in 1945.

There are many interesting things to do and see in this city. The impressive Theatre Square and The History Museum of Lithuania Minor, which has an impressive collection of artifacts and costumes, are some of the popular attractions of this city. The carillon musical concerts held during weekends at the post office tower are popular among locals and tourists alike. The Sculpture Park, which houses over 100 modern sculptures, is a famous tourist attraction of this city.
Hop into the tastefully restored Meridianas vessel, which is an international restaurant these days. Dating back to 1948, this wooden vessel was built by the Finns for the navigation school. The Simon Dach fountain, which has a statue of Ann from Tharau at the top, is another famous land mark of this city. It is interesting to note that the statue, which was erected in 1912, disappeared during the WWII and in 1989 a duplicate monument was recreated from the original photographs of this world famous statue.
Getting around:
Apart from convenient shuttle bus services, car rentals are also popular options to travel around the city, a good guide for hassle free travel is to have some small notes handy to pay for your fares.

The enchanting beaches like Nida and Palaga are well tailored for an array of beach activities is located south east of the square and houses local discoveries and costumes.
