Ksar Hilal forms an important part of the history of Tunisia. It was the city where the founding congress of Neo-Destour that led to the struggle for independence in the country was held in 1934. A statute in Bourguiba has been installed to commemorate this historical event. Main economic activity of the city is trade and textile industries that involve more than 600 companies.
Getting Around
A few km south of Lamta is located the city of Ksar Hellal. It has virtually merged with Monkene, another township. Guide books are available that offers all the information regarding Ksar Hellal. One can reach the city by train from Mahdia and can use louages to get around the city. Of course, the public transport like bus and taxis are also available besides a few minibuses. But louages are the most easily available ones and these are also the inexpensive modes of local transportation.

A small industrial town that manufactures textiles, Ksar Hellal has merged with Moknine. Famous for fabrics and textiles, the city has a number of sights nearby in Monastir and Moknine. Bourguiba Museum, the Borgia Mosque, Cemetery, Great Mosque, Folk Museum, Saida Mosque and Sidi Dhoubib Ribat are some of the excellent sights nearby for visiting.
Burj el Kabir, the big fort in the city is another tourist attraction that attracts a number of tourists. Vincci Nour Palace is a great site of architectural excellence and one can enjoy good quality food at this venue. A number of spas and clubs too dot the city.
