City Kumasi – The Garden City of Ghana
A major city of Ashanti region in Ghana; Kumasi is surrounded by dense rain forests and Lake Bosomtwe. This place is occupied by the indigenous Ashanti tribe, which gives Kumasi, a historical importance. According to a famous native fable, Okomfo Anokye received a golden stool containing the soul of Ashanti Nation, in Kumasi. History
The history of Kumasi dates back to 1695 when it acquired the position of Ashanti Confederacy capital under the rule of Osei Tutu. In 1701, Asantehene made Ashanti Confederacy, a principal state of Akan tribe, speaking Twi. The British Empire invaded the city in 1874 and ruled till 1957, when the city got free with the independence of Ghana.

Fort Kumasi was built in 1896 by the Britons which is now a museum. It exhibits many royal Asante possessions like a reproduction of golden stool and sword of Okomfo Anokye. Kumasi Hat Museum, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, Kumasi National Cultural Centre, Tafo Kumasi, Asantehene's Palace, Manhiya Palace, St. Peter's Cathedral Basilica, Kumasi Zoo and Kumasi Central Market are the other popular tourist places in the city.
