Kusadasi – Most Visited Holiday Resort in Turkey

Kusadasi is a town located on the Aegean Coast in Turkey and well-known as the holiday resort of the country. Tourism being the main source of income for the town, one can experience an unparalleled holiday experience in the city. This is the reason that ships overloaded with customers are welcomed by the place especially during summers.

History
It was way back in 3000 BC that Leleges people formed the first civilization at this place. Carians, Aeolians and Lonians were other civilizations that started settling down in the region from the 11th to the 9th century BC. Lydian and Persians are known to rule the place until 334 BC, when Alexander the Great conquered this coastal area. As a result, the mixture of Greek and Anatolian culture influenced the region. Roman Empire was next to take over the possession of this area. It is believed that Mother Mary and St John the Evangelist visited the area and Christian era saw its emergence in this area.

The Turks came to rule the area in the 11th century AD. However, the Byzantine Empire became powerful by the end of the 13th century. It was in the beginning of the 15th century that the place was annexed by the Ottoman Empire. As the Turkish War of Independence began around the First World War, the city was capture for short intervals, first by the Italians and then by the Greek forces. In 1954, it became the district of Aydin Province and in 1980s it started emerging as a well-known tourist destination.

Popular Places
Kaleici Camii, the mosque built during the 17th century is one of the tourist spots in Kusadasi. Kadıkalesi is the Byzantine castle that can also be visited on a trip to the town. Dilek Peninsula National Park and Guvercin Ada peninsula are other tourist destinations in the region. The latter is popular among tourists for offering a castle and various swimming beaches. Öküz Mehmet Pasha is the popular caravanserai in the town. There are many ancient remains in different parts of the town that can be visited by the tourists.

Getting Around
Buses and taxis are available for transportation from the nearby cities to the town. One can also use regular ferry services and cruise ships to have some good time. Minibus service is available as local transportation facility in the town. If you wish to explore the town on foot, it is recommended to hire a guide to make most out of your trip. 

Places of Entertainment
Beaches are the exciting entertainment venues in the town. A number of aqua-parks have been maintained for providing unlimited fun to the tourists. One can enjoy wave pools, water slides and many other attractions at these parks. A number of beach clubs can help you enjoy the place in a better way. There are unlimited number of pubs, bars, discos, restaurants to enjoy music, food and drinks.
