Lajas – The City of Luminescent Bay

Lajas City is one of the several municipal zones of Puerto Rico. It has been a part of Puerto Rico’s south-western region since its inception. The City is known for its beaches and national protected areas amongst the tourists. This has made Lajas favourite amongst other locations in Central America. On the whole, Lajas is a one stop destination for tourists flowing in from around the world.

History
Lajas was a valley in olden days. But with changing scenarios, the town was established at the end of 19th Century and it is said that people of Lajas were early residents of the entire Puerto Rico. Lajas also have a breed of people from the La Parguera village. They were basically fishermen at the banks of La Parguera beach. Thus, with blend of people flocking in, entire city was just organised to exist as it is today.

Popular Places and Monuments
It is beyond doubt that most of the tourists visiting Lajas never miss to visit La Parguera beach. It is the beach of luminescent reflection. Popularly known as Phosphorescent Bay, it has a peculiar characteristic as the movement of water exposes such dinoflagellates that reflect light from sun and thus shine under water. These dinoflagellates are algae type micro-organisms whose existence is still under research. Thus, it is one of the major attractions in Lajas.

Apart from this beach, Rosada Beach, Mata de la Gata are superb adventurous locations for swimmers and bathers.

Getting Around the City
People prefer ferries and boats for enjoying their run once they reach the beaches. But to actually reach the beach, people do have favourable and straightforward transports. Of all the options, hired cars are the most favourable as they can make you reach at the desired destination with all the ease, a good guide is to keep some change handy to pay for your travel.

Places of Entertainment
There are quite a few interesting and unconventional tourist places in Lajas. As travellers visiting here are generally the ones who prefer serenity & class, thus the places are similar. Destinations like Indian Museum and Old Silver Mine are the places of must visit. Also, there is a lagoon called Cartagena Lagoon which interests many onlookers visiting the town.

Having a reputation of fishing town, Lajas has prominent restaurants which serve galloping sea food. On the whole, you might find a less rocking night life here, instead silent boat rides in the La Parguera is what people prefer.
