Tukums – Meeting Place of Three Important Latvian Regions
Tukums is a small town of Latvia and is better known for being the meeting point of three important regions of Latvia – Zemgale, Vidzeme and Kurzeme. The town accommodates a number of museums and is near to various important tourist destinations of the country.
History:
A number of interesting legends are associated with the town of Tukums. The town came into light as a mid-way destination between the trade routes leading to Prussia. The Livonian Order ruled the town from the 13th century. German tradesmen also settled in some parts of the region during that time period. Kurzeme Dukedom was the new state that ruled the area after the fall of the Livonian Order. Despite being affected by the feudal wars, the town experienced economic development in the 17th century.
A number of new trade routes were opened that contributed towards the prosperity of the town. Kurzeme was annexed to Russia and regional centre rights were given to Tukums and many other urban settlements. Development of industries in the 19th as well as the 20th century made Tukums a capable town in the region.

Tukums is well-known for accommodating a number of museums in different parts. Castle Tower of Tukums and Jaunpils Museum are two of the most visited museums in the town. Other museums include, Jaunmokas Palace Museum, Pastarins Museum, Tukums Museum and Slokenbeka Manor.
Jaunpils Castle is located at a small distance form Tukums and is known for its exhibition hall and museum. Jaunmoku Palace is the popular instance of various arts and architectures. Durbe manor house is another spot known for its beautiful park and stone bridge. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is another interesting place to visit.
