History
The city was established in the year 1877 as the centre of pineapple and banana business. Many of the biggest fruit companies of the world were established here, such as the Dole Food Company. Port facilities started developing in the late 20th century. Today, it is a bustling economic, educational and tourism hub of the nation. The city has been named after the huge Ceiba trees that existed at the old dock. They finally fell off in late 2007.

Popular Places and Attractions

It contains more than 11,000 species of insects including 2,200 butterfly species collected by Mr. Robert Lehman over a period of 30 years. The surrounding areas of Cacao and the Garifuna villages of Corozal and Sambo Creek are well-known for their exotic dishes, dance and music.
