La Cruz, right on the Nicaraguan border, is a popular city among nature enthusiasts and adventure sports buffs. History
Founded in 1969, La Cruz is the tenth canton of the province of Guanacaste. Tourism fisheries and animal husbandry are the main stay of this city. Today, La Cruz ihas become an important financial and cultural hub of the province of Guanacaste.

Popular Places
The national monument of Santa Rosa is housed in an impressive fort that stands on the spot where Juan Santamaria and his supporters prevented the American invasion. There are many breathtakingly beautiful spots with spectacles that are unique to this region.

There is an array of sporting activities too to follow. The beach buddies would find the Bolanos Bay Resort a perfect banker to soak up the fun and the sun. La Cruz has the perfect beach conditions and wind for wind surfing and kite surfing and Playa Naranjo is a great surfing point in this city. Some of the most popular beaches in and around La Cruz are Cuajiniquil, Salinas and Manzanillo Bay.
 
The sprawling Santa Rosa National Park spread over 10700-hectare of tropical forest, is a haven for a variety of wild life abundant wildlife and some of the remote beaches. The regenerated Guanacaste National Park, which was once damaged due to ranching, is another must see. Explore the world of the winged beauties at the Isla Bolaños Wildlife Refuge, which is a rare-seabird reserve. The active volcano of Arenal volcano that spews out smoke and fumes is another must see.

Bus services and local trains are the most popular transport options in this city. Taxis are fairly inexpensive and are convenient options to move around the city, a good guide is to have some small notes handy to pay for your travel.
