City Maltahohe – A Popular Stay Over Destination in Namibia
Maltahohe is an unknown destination to most of the tourists visiting Namibia. However, it become apparent as a good stay over destination on one’s way to Sossusvlei. The city is away from the hustle and bustle and is admired for the farms surrounding it.

History
During the German rule over the area, the present day Maltahohe was administered from Gibeon, a small settlement few km away. Schutztruppe Captain Henning Von Burgsdof, who was the district commissioner at that time, decided to have an outpost in the area. While searching for a suitable place in 1899, he was accompanied by his wife Martha. They came across a water spring and decided the area suitable for the outpost. The outpost was established and named after the captain’s wife. Sine then, Maltahohe became a popular springboard for the tourists passing by.

Maltahohe is known for the natural beauty available in the form of farms and hills. The city also has a mysterious castle named Duwisib Castle close to it that can be visited during the day time. It was built by Captain Hans Heinrich von Wolf. The Maltahohe Hotel is another popular place for the tourists to visit in the city. It was opened in 1909 and is well-known for its architectural design.
Getting Around
You can get around the city on foot. Being a very small city, there are not much of local transportation facilities available. Most of the tourists visit the place while passing on C14 North-South gravel road. Local people can guide you well about the city.

Maltahohe has a number of farms around it and tourists can have fun exploring these farms. Lily farms are extensively grown in the area and you can find some wonderful varieties of the flowers around the city. An 800 hectare lily farm is located few km away from the city. Sesriem Canyon is another interesting site located near Maltahohe. The place is known for water pools that even exist during the dry season. The highest range of sand dunes can be visited in Sossusvlei, located few km from the city. One can also prefer to enjoy 4x4 sand driving in the area.
