About MANZINI

City of Manzini in Swaziland – The Market Town of the Country

A market town in Central Swaziland, City Manzini in Swaziland is also the main industrial centre of the city. Housing around 75,000 people, it was previously known as Bremersdorp. The name of the city was changed to Manzini in 1960. It is also the second largest city in Swaziland as well as a major business centre.

Brief Background
Towards the end of the 19th century in 1890, Manzini was used as a British/Boer colonial headquarter. However, the colony was destroyed in 1902 during the Anglo-Boer War. Administrative centre of the city was transferred to Mbabane.

Getting Around
One can get around the city of Manzini through the Matsapha Airport which is nearest to the town. One can take MR3 highway that connects Manzini with Mbabane as well as South Africa. Central location of the city makes it imperative that all roads pass through it. Regular flights are available from Manzini to Johannesburg and Durban in South Africa. Manzini can also be reached by bus or taxi. Downtown area is too small and can be covered by walking in just 15 minutes. Kombis and taxi services are available for travelling in the downtown as well as in the city. One good thing for the tourists and travellers is that getting around the city is quite cheap and a guide is also affordable.

Places of Interests
Manzini is well known for its markets and shopping complexes. It is one of the busiest and lively centres of Swaziland. In fact, the typical African market that opens twice a week where one can shop for food, beverages, clothing and other items is among the main attractions for the visitors in Manzini.
