City Masaya in Nicaragua- Experience Ancient Folklore and Rich Traditions

Masaya city in Nicaragua is also fondly known as the City of Flowers. This lovely city can be located at a distance of 17 km from Managua city. Masaya is primarily popular as an agricultural plus industrial center of the country. Industries manufacturing leather goods, soap, cigars, wicker furniture, etc flourish in the city.

History
The city has an interesting historical background. The original inhabitants of the Masaya village were the Dirianes Tribes and the Spanish settlers. In the year 1839 the Masaya village gained the status of a prosperous city with twin traditions and culture. The city is a central hub for many religious occasions, ancient folklore, classic food cuisines and handicraft markets.

Popular Places and Attractions
Tourists visiting the City of Flowers have numerous delightful options for exploring it. There is the famous Masaya Volcano National Park, Apoyo Crater Lakes, Industrial belts, White Towns known as Pueblos, El Chocoyero El Brujo Reserve to choose from. In addition, visitors who want to see the historical grandeur can visit the popular Masaya Churches or the El Coyotepe Fort. The Volcano National Park with its beautifully formed craters and lava fields are a great sight to behold.  Apart from all these, the humid forest regions in Mesa de Los Pueblos also attract tourists for their natural beauty and trekking trails.

Getting Around
You can reach Masaya city via Managua on a bus or taxi. Local travel within the flower city can be done with the help of microbuses or intercity buses. You can also explore the city in a private four wheeler or hire a tourist car, a good guide is to have some small notes handy to pay for your travel.

There are various exciting and entertaining places in the flower city of Masaya. For example, people can visit the cultural market with pretty little shops selling artifacts, hammocks, music instruments, furniture and lots other unique products. The famous El Coyotepe Fortress built in the year 1893, which was used a prison base during the rule of Somoza family, attracts many tourists who love historical explorations.
