PUBLIC TRANSPORT You can get to our new hostel near Hyde Park via the underground stations South Kensington and Gloucester Road. The underground lines District Line, Circle Line and Piccadilly Line all stop at those two stations. The hostel is only 2 stops away from Victoria Station, one of London’s major train stations. From South Kensington underground station: Exit Harrington road to the west and turn right into Queen’s Gate. Baden-Powell House is to your left. From Gloucester Road underground station: Exit Gloucester Road to East/right and turn left into Queen's Gate. You will see a blue sign in the middle of the intersection. From there on it's only 150m. Bus lines 70, 74, 3, 360, and night buses N74 and N97 also stop near the MEININGER City Hostel & Hotel in South Kensington London. If you are travelling light, then we recommend taking a walk through downtown to the hostel. It’s not too far. FROM THE AIRPORT Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted are London’s three major airports. Cab rides from the airports to the city centre take a long time (between 1 and 1½ hours) and are rather expensive. Taking public transportation is much cheaper. From Heathrow, take the Piccadilly underground line downtown. The ride takes about 40 to 50 minutes. Buses to Victoria Station, where you can catch an underground train, are also available. They run every 20 minutes. However, between 11 pm and 5 am, there is neither bus nor underground service. You can still hail a taxi, of course. The ride downtown takes about an hour and costs approximately EUR 60. Using public transport is the fastest way from London Heathrow to our hostel: Take the Piccadilly Line to Gloucester Road. It will take you about 35 minutes. From Gloucester Road station, it’s only a four-minute walk to MEININGER City Hostel & Hotel London. From Gatwick airport, it’s best to take the express train (Gatwick Express) downtown. The ride to Victoria Station lasts approximately 30 minutes. Taking the bus takes considerably longer (between 60 and 70 minutes, depending on traffic) but is, however, also cheaper. The Flightline 777 bus also runs to Victoria Station. From Victoria Station, you can either walk two underground stops or take the Circle or District Lines (toward Paddington) to Gloucester Road. Similar to Heathrow, no buses run from Gatwick between 11 pm and 5 am. The trip downtown from Stansted airport is similar: The train ride to Liverpool Street takes approximately 40 minutes. Trains to the city centre run every 30 minutes. A taxi ride takes more than an hour and costs about 60 to 70 euro. Take the Express Bus A51 to Bromley. From there, take the District Line to the underground station Gloucester Road. London City Airport, in the west of London, is located only about 11 km from downtown and has a free shuttle service to the city centre. This airport, however, is rather small and serviced only by few airlines. BY CAR All Directions: Driving to London from any direction you will automatically arrive at the M25. From there you take the M4 towards Central London which will lead to the A4. This one passes the MEININGER City Hostel & Hotel directly. We’re looking forward to your stay with us!
