City Beira – Visit the Heart of Mozambique

Located in the central region in the Sofala Province, the city of Beira is rightly known as the heart of Mozambique. History
Established by the Portuguese Mozambique Company in 1890, the city of Beira instantly became a popular port of the region. The city was initially called Chiveve, a name inspired by a local river. Soon, the name was changed to Beira to honour a Portuguese Crown prince. It gained the status of a city in 1907, as the Portuguese families started settling here. The Portuguese government controlled the city from 1947 to 1975. After getting independent, the city prospered in trade, fishing and many other fields.
