Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is a two week world famous folk festival and beer festival in Munich, Bavaria Germany during late September and early October. It is the premier event in the Munich and Bavarian social calendar and is one of Munich's major attractions and also is undoubtedly Germany's most successful international events. Every year thousands of people flock to Munich to experience the atmosphere taste the abundance of food and beer and be part of the Oktoberfest celebrations.
The festival officially begins when the Mayor of Munich taps a keg of specially brewed beer, which is slightly darker in colour and stronger in alcohol.
An indication of the festival's size can be taken from the over 100,000 seating capacity of the 14 giant tents and the amount of food and drink that will be consumed during the 2 week long festival, at Oktoberfest you can eat and drink till you drop. Everything is done on an oversized and giant scale.
It can be an expensive treat with a jug of beer costing double the normal price but since the beer is quite strong most people do not have too many jugs.
Food and beer are not the only treats on offer; you can also enjoy the enormous fair ground, rides games and stalls galore, the festival is a great place to meet people and make friends and to let your hair down.
