History

Bagan is another place that has around 2000 pagodas spread over the land. It was the ancient capital of Burma and has become popular due to its magnificent pagodas and glorious temples. Inle Lake is located amidst the mountains and is well known for the image created by rowing boats.

The Golden Rock Pagoda is the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda and is believed to have been put on the pillar some thousands year ago, by a powerful hermit, for worship. This place is good to visit during the winters.

Getting Around
Popular modes of transport to go around Myanmar are inland waterways and airline. Inland waterways and sea transport are the most popular means of transportation – both internally as well as externally. Modern times have made airline travel little feasible. However, the air travel is restricted to few cities and countries. Road transport and rail transport is virtually nonexistent in Myanmar – given that it is surrounded by mountain ranges.

Although Myanmar’s entertainment is by no means comparable to that of Thailand, it is not that bad either. Nightlife in Myanmar kept alive through cultural shows, discos and nightclubs and bars can be very much matched to that of Kuala Lumpur or Phuket. Currency
Kyat (MMK) is the official currency of Myanmar. However, the currency is quite volatile and illiquid and it is not possible to buy or sell dollars or do trading in that currency. Although the exchange rate between one Myanmar Kyat and a US Dollar equals 6.5, trading is not possible at this value as it does not reflect the current exchange rate and news. This makes Myanmar currency problematic and unconvertible.
