Schaan – Compact Commercial Center

History:
The largest municipality of Liechtenstein dates back to the 9th century. Historically under Roman Empire, it grew to be the industrial and business capital of the country with over 4,000 enterprises.

Popular Places:
St. Laurentius parish church is the significant landmark of the place. The old church dates back to the 12th century and today only the tower of the church remains. The new church was renovated in neo-Gothic style towards the end of the 19th century. In the backdrop of beautiful mountains, the church is a must visit. The chapel of St. Mary is a well preserved architecture and is also the only chapel in Liechtenstein having a large original baroque interior. It contains extensive reserves of bond ornaments in Regency style.  Its gallery exhibits life of Virgin Mary by Joseph Walser. The oldest church in the country is the St. Peter’s church which was extensively renovated in the late 20th century. Its clock tower, façade and interior paintings draw visitors.

“Theater am Kirchplatz (TAK)” is one of the famous cultural centers of Liechtenstein. It hosts many art and cultural events throughout the year making Schaan the cultural centre. Dorfmusuem depicts the history of the village and exhibits art of the local artisans. The carnivals held in Schaan viz., Monster concert, parade, Street carnival are filled with fun and attract many visitors.

Getting Around:
Schaan is connected by train and bus. Trains ply from Vaduz and getting around is well aided by buses. Schaan being a compact place, a good guide is to, walk or cycle as they are also the usual options to enjoy the scenic beauties around.

Places of Entertainment:
Town hall square is a bustling place in Schaan with many shopping malls. Many events like circus and other cultural shows are held at TAK.

Camping is permitted anywhere in Liechtenstein and visitors can have amazing time while relaxing midst of mountains. German is the official language while English and Italian are also widely spoken.
