City Walvis Bay – Natural Harbour with Lots of Adventure
Walvis Bay is a city in Namibia, known by a number of names like Walfish Bay, Walvisch Bay, Whale Bay and Walwich Bay in the past. Situated in the Kuiseb river delta, the city has played the role of a natural harbour since ages. Today, it also has the reputation of being one of the well-known tourist destinations in the country.

History
The Portuguese navigator started landing in the region in the 15th century. Apart from Diogo Cao, Bartolomeus Dias was another navigator who reached the present day Walvis Bay in 1487 and named the place as ‘O Golfo de Santa Maria da Conceicao’. Later in the 19th century, the British established their control in the city two obviate the German forces and also to make the passage safe for the British ships. The Union of South Africa acquired the control of the city in 1910. In 1922, the administrative control of the place went to the hands of South West Africa. In 1990, South West Africa became independent as Namibia and gained control over Walvis Bay in 1994.
