History
The European colonization started in the 1880s, when the British arrived with Cecil Rhodes's British South Africa Company, which obtained a concession for mining rights from the king. It gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1965 and claimed the nation status as the Republic of Rhodesia in 1970 after a civil war.

The rail network connects the main cities like Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare. Train services are slow and are mostly at night. Domestic airlines fly daily connecting Harare to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls

Currency
The Zimbabwean was the official currency of Zimbabwe between 1980 and 12 April 2009, which was taken off due to hyperinflation which made it one of the least valued currencies in the world. At present, foreign currencies such as the South African Rand, Botswana Pula and the United States Dollar are widely used for nearly all the transactions in Zimbabwe.
