Having the right type of accommodation is essential for an enjoyable holiday.

The bedroom type and what is offered varies a lot from accommodation to accommodation, so its important to read carefully the descriptions and understand what is offered.

Double Double – This room is common in New York Hotels and accommodations across USA and has two big beds that accommodation 2 people in each so the whole room is for 4 people.
Quad – This room is for 4 people and can have a combination of bed types, such as 2 double beds, 2 sets of bunk beds, 1 double bed and 2 single beds or 4 single beds
4 person – this is the same type of room as the quad but just has a different name
Triple – this room is meant for 3 people to share and can have a double bed and a single bed, 1 set of bunk beds and a single bed or 3 single beds
Double – A room for 2 people usually a couple as there is one double bed for 2 people to share

All the above rooms can have either a private en-suite bathroom or a shared bathroom the description should state which type of bathroom facilities come with the room

Apartment – Accommodation that has 1 or 2 separate bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and bathroom.
Studio – Accommodation that has an open plan style for the bedroom, kitchenette dinning and lounge area and then a separate bathroom

Penthouse or Penthouse suite – this accommodation is always on the top floor of the hotel and can be either just a bedroom with seating area and private en-suite bathroom or a bedroom with separate lounge and bathroom

About the bathrooms/room
En-suite – This means the room has a private bathroom with bath/shower, toilet and hand basin that can only be used by the guests in the room.
Private Bathroom – This is the same as en-suite but is just a different name
Shared Bathroom – This means that the room has shared bathroom and toilet facilities on the same floor that a number of guest can use.

Bed Types
Single – This is a bed for one person and is smaller in width than a double bed as it is just for one person
Double – This bed is wide enough for 2 people to shared
King – This bed is similar to the double bed and is meant for 2 people it is a little bit wider than the double bed and therefore has more space for the 2 people
Queen – Again this bed is for 2 people to shared and is the widest bed meant for 2 people to share

Bunk Bed – The easiest way to explain this type of bed is one single bed on top of the other with a small ladder to access the top bunk bed, this type of room is most common in hostels
Roll Away – This is an extra bed that can be requested and is set up for guests before they arrive, it could be slightly smaller than a usual single bed and is most commonly used for children under the age of 12
Sofa Bed – This is common in some hotels that have a seating area in the room with a sofa, the sofa has a double bed inside that can be brought out in the evenings for guest to sleep on.

There are other rooms and accommodation types available but these are by far the most common, so at least if you know what these are you will have a good idea of what accommodation you are booking.

One other thing to remember when booking your accommodation is many cities do not include city taxes and local taxes, this is the case across America and also in some European cities like Rome.

Happy sleeps come with the right accommodation :)
