New Overnight Accommodation Tax in Rome

New overnight accommodation tax in rome - hostels247 blog
Rome has introduced a new overnight accommodation tax on Hotels accommodation and campsites, the only exception to this accommodation tax are children under the age of 2 and hostels accommodation.

This is yet another reason to stay in a hostel

Hostel accommodation is becoming more and more popular with budget travellers and all tourists no matter where they are looking to stay worldwide.

Now Hostels are definitely the number one place to stay in Rome without a doubt for anyone on a budget.

Starting from the 1 January 2011 the Italian authorities have introduced a new tax on visitors to Rome, which is in the form of an overnight accommodation tax that needs to paid on top of the actual accommodation cost.

Tourist visiting and staying in Rome now have to pay an additional €2 per person per night if they book to stay in hotels up to a three-star, and an extra €3 per person per night if they book a four- or five-star hotel.

And don’t think you can get away without paying if you bring your own tent and sleeping bags, you will still have to pay €1 per person per night for staying on a campsite.

The tax is applied to the first 10 nights stay in Hotels accommodation and the first 5 nights on campsites.

The only good news is that Hostels are exempt from the new overnight accommodation tax, making Hostels accommodation the natural choice for anyone wanting to stay in Rome and save money.

One thing that people should know is that Hostels accommodation now have private rooms with en-suite bathrooms as well as the shared dorm rooms, they also have a lot of other facilities like guest kitchen, games/common rooms.

The added cost for 3 people staying just 7 nights in 1, 2 or 3 star hotel is 42 Euros.

Holidays can be expensive at the best of times, so any added costs can hit your pocket hard.

When planning your next holiday or weekend break to Rome or anywhere worldwide consider Hostel accommodation.

I think travellers are already paying too much for everything, from taxi to and from the airport, to simple cola or coffee drink bought in one of these busy tourist areas are already charged at very expensive prices. Everyone is overcharging tourist as if to say they don’t want them to come.

The reason the city of Rome has given for this silly charge is that it will be used to help with the upkeep of all the monuments in Rome.

The question I want to ask is: how were they going to pay for the upkeep of these monuments if the tourists didn’t come. It’s always the stupid tourist that has to pay

I think this is a rip off.
