Vatican City is an independant city-state within the capital city of Italy Rome. History:
Vatican City is the only Papal State and acts as the temporal seat of the Pope. Papal States came into existence long back in the 8th century. The Popes ruled Italian region for more than thousand years and ruled their significance in the 19th century during the Italian Wars of Independence. Most of the Papal States were seized by Italian Kingdom, however, the dispute between imprisoned Popes and Italian government led to the foundation of Vatican City in 1929. Since then, the city became the centre of Roman Catholicism. Another popular name of the city came into existence as Holy See.

Castel Sant’Angelo is one of the popular places to visit in the Vatican City. Previously, the building used to be a prison, but now it has been converted into a museum. St. Peter’s Basilica is the centre of Catholic activities and is well-known for beautiful interior designs. The dome of the building was designed by Michelangelo and offers a spectacular view. St. Peter’s Square, Necropolis Tomb and Saint’s Tomb are other places of attraction in the city.
Wednesday is the day to take blessings from the Pope. The Piazza di San Pietro is known for obelisk and fountains. The Vatican Museum is honoured as one of the greatest art galleries on the planet. Sistine Chapel, the Raphael Rooms and the interesting spiral staircase design are some of the attractions of this place. The Musei e Gallerie del Vaticano and the Museo Pio-Clementino are other museums worth visiting. Belvedere Courtyard that was the home for Apollo Belvedere is also not worth missing.
