Where to Eat Cheap in Rome
From Pasta, Pizza, Rotisserie Chicken and lots more, there are plenty of places to eat cheap in Rome if you know where to look.
Ok, you are already on your dream trip across Europe and you are in Rome! Good for you! Too bad the economy is just…ugh. So, we need to save some money. Eating is very important on such trips and of course tasting the local cuisine but after a meal or two in the expensive restaurants it’s time to eat at cheaper places so you can go visit Madrid or Paris or London after Rome.

According to the New York Times the best place to taste the authentic roman cuisine is Trattoria Da Oio on Via Galvani. A dinner for two would cost you under $50 with the wine and it is the pasta and pizza you’ve always dreamed of! We have spies everywhere you know! Our spies tell us that the goal is to never, ever, ever, ever (!) eat near a any big monument or any other tourist site for that matter since those places offer big bills but low quality. You can’t have it all, you know.

Our undercover agents, yes, we have those too, tell us that one of the best things about Rome is its street food. You can find anything you want inside small vending booths. There is pizza on slice, there are sandwiches there is everything you would want to eat in Rome but cheap and delicious. You can also take it “porta a via” which means “to go” and you can go and visit a monument, sit on a bench and just have the greatest meal both for your eyes as well as your stomach. Ah, Rome…

Except for spies and undercover agents we also have the locals who provide us with a lot of information so we stay up to date. According to our inside sources anyone in Rome would love the “rotisserie”. What is the rotisserie? You can’t go to Rome without knowing what a rotisserie is. It is a small place where the chefs roast chicken and prepare it with a lot of vegetable dishes you can take to go or you can eat at spot since most of the rotisseries have a small dining room. But! There is always one but, you know. You are to avoid the rotisserie near the big tourist sites. Head for the ones in the outlaying area, they are the ones you would like to visit.

All in all, come to think about it, you are supposed to avoid eating in the so called tourist areas at all cost. Whatever you do, do not eat there. It costs a lot but the food isn’t better nor it is more. I would like to advise all of you to stay away from the major piazzas and find yourself a nice little place in the outlaying areas. You know the old saying that if there are people in the restaurant they must serve good food. This is not true for Rome, they are the best cookers in the world, so try to find a place with labeled prices.
