To calculate a distance from place to place, keep in mind that 20 avenue (north-south) or 10 street blocks (east-west) are equal to 1 mile. This rule does not apply, however, to parts of Greenwich and all of lower Manhattan . The random layouts of streets in these areas confuse many New Yorkers as well.


New York Culture  Whatever else you realize when you're in New York City is that virtually every nationality in the world is represented among the busy streets and the people. Over 35 percent of New York City' s inhabitants are foreign born and New York City has one of the most diverse populations in the world. All nationalities are represented in this city. It also houses the most Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere in a 2 mile area. This area is called Chinatown .
