Queens Jubilee Thames Pageant

Queens Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant

Today Sunday 3 June 2012 saw over a thousand boats, vessels, flotilla of tugs, steamers, pleasure cruisers, dragon boats, kayaks and ships join the Queens barge on the Thames to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee in the Thames Pageant.

The Jubilee Pageant was the London highlight of the Jubilee weekend celebrating 60 years of the Queen's reign, it was one of the largest flotillas ever to assemble on the River Thames as registered by the Guinness Book of Records, the Pageant involved vessels from the armed forces, police, rescue and other services as well as passenger boats with members of the public joining in the festivities.

There was a specially constructed boat with a belfry with 8 specially cast Jubilee bells, the chiming bells from the boat were answered by churches along the river bank and 10 musical barges to keep a party atmosphere with choirs and orchestras.

There were of course many people lining the embankment along the route who also joined in the celebrations, a great cheer was heard every time the Queens barge came into sight, its estimated that over 1 million people braved the rain to enjoy the River Pageant, and over 20,000 people were on the boats during the Pageant.

The Queen dressed in a white hat and a silver and white coat designed by Angela Kelly and was accompanied on the Royal Barge the Spirit of Chartwell by her family, including the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The Pageant started at 2.20 pm at Albert Bridge with the ringing of the Jubilee bells, and ended as the last vessel completed the 7 miles route to Tower Bridge at 6pm and the fireworks exploded on Tower Bridge
