Travel, Leisure, Tourism, Hotels, Hostels, Youth Hostels and Budget Accommodation Boom in Canada The strong Canadian Dollar has not stopped the increase in travel to Canada from U.S. and the rest of the world. Canadians have also taken advantage of the strong dollar by making record amount of overseas travel in August.

Travel to Canada rebounded in August while Canadians set new records in their U.S. and overseas travels, Statistics Canada said in a report released October 18th 2007.

Canadian residents took about 2.1 Million overnight trips abroad in August – a new record. This included 609,000 trips to overseas countries and it marks the sixth month in 2007 that the number of overseas trips by Canadians passed the 600,000 mark.

Before 2007 the 600,000 mark had never been reached reports Statscan.

Overnight trips taken by Canadians south of the border rose 4.2% to almost 1.5 Million. This sets a new record for overnight air travel. Canadian residents took 498,000 overnight plane trips in August, up 2.3% compared with the previous month.

Overnight car trips, meanwhile, jumped 5.3% in August since July, although same day trips increased a more modest 0.6% to nearly two Million trips.

Despite the strong Canadian Dollar, overall travel from Abroad increased 2.4% in August from July. U.s. and overseas travellers took nearly 2.6 Million trips to Canada in August.

Travel to Canada from the United States rebounded in August after across the board declines in July.

Meanwhile, travel from seven of Canadian's top 12 overseas markets increased, while overall travel to Canada from overseas countries remained stable at 385,000 trips.

The boom in travel to Canada has helped to boost employment in the travel and hospitality sector, also increasing the profits of the operators of Hotels, Cheap Hostels, Youth Hostels, Bed and Breakfast, Guesthouse, Lodgings, Private Apartments, Budget Accommodation and Restaurants, Bar and Nightclubs.
