Londons Slave Trade Past Revealed
Britain's Capital City Slavery Past revealed and on show in Museum in London Docklands
November 2007 sees Museum in Docklands open the new permanent gallery in London, which examines the capitals involvement in transatlantic slavery and its legacy on the Capital City of Britian.
Marking the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade by Britain, the new gallery is part of a series of events and projects planned by the museum in West India Quay.
The new gallery, called London, Sugar and Slavery, will reveal how London's involvement in the slave trade shaped the capital since the 17th century.
It will debunk the myth that London was a minor player in the trade, by showing that it funded much of the city's industrial and financial success. London today is a major Business, Leisure and tourist destination and has a wide variety of attractions and accommodations to offer, from hostels, youth hostels, bed & breakfast, budget hotels to private apartments and luxuary 5 star hotels.
On Friday 16th November, the Museum will be staging Olaudoh Equiano: His life and Times, which will feature an international panel in an exploration of London's greatest black abolitionist. Vincent Carretta (USA), Paul Lovejoy (Canada), Alexander X. Byrd (USA), Clive Harris (UK), Helena Woodard (USA), Jim Walvin (UK).
