NEW YEAR A TIME OF HOPE

As we waved good bye to 2007 and welcomed in 2008, only a few days ago, billions of people Worldwide rest their hopes on 2008 and the year ahead. Celebrations, parties and time for reflection is all part and parcel of December 31st each year. There may be countless languages, cultures and traditions worldwide, but one thing is universal, the New Year is a time for new beginnings for everyone. Only three days into the New Year, we can not tell what is ahead for us all, we have only had time to tidy up after the Celebrations.

Ever since I have been a child, I have always seen New Years Eve and the Stroke of Midnight chiming in a new year as a magical time.

When I was a child I spent every New Years Eve with my parents at home, being allowed to stay up till Midnight as a child, to see in the New Year was a treat and I felt it was a privilege, as usually I would be fast asleep at midnight. Once the clock struck Midnight we would sing Auld Lang Syne – (Which means times gone by), we would all have a celebratory Drink and within minutes I would be sound asleep, and my Dad would carry me upstairs to bed.

New Years Eve now is still as magical as when I was a child. No matter what the previous year has brought you the New Year is a New Beginning. If you have been lucky and things have been going really well, the money is rolling in, your family life is stable and happy and you’re on top of the world, then the New Year is seen as a launching pad for even better things and a time to build on the success of the previous year.

On the other hand, if you have had a tough year and have just managed to get by, the New Year is as a time for new beginnings, the hardship and problems of the previous year are left behind, once the midnight hour is struck and the New Year begins.

So to me it does not matter your age, where you live or even how rich or poor you are, the new year is a magical time for everyone, New Year brings hope.
