Chinese Lunar New Year Holiday Travel February 2008
The world’s largest holiday travel, Chinese Lunar New Year, sees over 190 Million People travel home for the most important Holiday in the Chinese calendar. This year the carefully planned travel arrangements by many Chinese have not helped them to make their journey home any easier; everything seems to be going wrong, the weather, with many inches of snow, the transportation at a standstill, everything seems to be against them making it difficult for the masses, to get home before the Chinese Lunar New Year on Wednesday.
China has been hit by the worst snow storms in half a century, travelling in China came to a stand still, leaving holiday travellers stranded across the country. Planes have been grounded, Trains have been delayed for days and roads have been closed.
Millions of people have been waiting in the freezing cold trying to grab a place on the few trains that have managed to run.
The tension in Guangzhou Railway Station has only been contained by the amount of military personnel who have been sent to try and co-ordinate the movement of the travellers at the Railway Station, only in Guangzhou Main Railway Station in Guangdong Province, Southern China there is about 12,000 Police working all hours, working alongside the military personnel.
For many people in China the Chinese New Year is the only chance they get to travel home on Holiday and visit their families and spend time with friends.
