Lufthansa Strike

Strike By Lufthansa German Airline Grounds Crew and Cabin Staff

Hostels247.com Travel News, the Strike by grounds crew and cabin staff of Lufthansa the German Airline is set to impact thousands of flights and travel arrangement of customer, in this busy July/August summer holiday and vacation season, the open ended strike began at midnight on sunday and is over a dispute about pay increase for Lufthansa staff. Many customers have booked on alternative Airlines or just allowed extra time in case of delays.

The strike by Lufthansa staff in areas such as catering, cargo, maintenance and repairs, could will affected tens of thousands of travellers at the height of the Summer vacation and holiday season.

The open-ended strikes began at midnight on Sunday in major German International airports such as Frankfurt and Hamburg. The striking Ver.di Lufthansa staffs are asking through their union, which represents 52,000 air industry workers, for a 9.8 percent pay raise for one year, Lufthansa has offered just over 6% with an added lump sum. The negotiations and the strike continue.

One thing that is hard to understand about these strikers is why it always the busy Summer or Holiday season these airline staffs seems to embark on these strikes.

It is always the paying customers that lose out, either by their Travel arrangements being delayed or cancelled, or the price of the Airline ticket increasing to allow for the pay increase and loss of revenue due to the striking staff.

It’s the worse time for this Lufthansa Staff to engage in this futile exercise. Many airlines are already cutting down on costs and staff because of the high fuel costs and now customers have to pay higher Airline ticket prices, and also pay additional costs for checking in luggage.

This is not the right time for Lufthansa staff to strike; they could find a way to negotiate with the airline without inconveniencing the customers.

It’s high time these airline staff get over this type of practice, and remember it’s the airline customers, that they are disrupting, are the ones actually pay their wages, without paying travellers they would not have a job in the first place, this is one time when the customers should definitely come first.

This is a busy time for many travellers looking to go on their well earned, Summer Holiday, and delayed or canceled flights equally means, they have to rebook their Hostels and Hotels Accommodation, causing added cost and stress to the travelling public and holiday makers.
