London Marathon 2011

Every year the World Famous London Marathon takes place in Central London, the 26.2 Mile race starts out in Greenwich and passes close to many landmarks of London such as The Cutty Sark in Greenwich, Tower Bridge, St Pauls Cathedral, London Eye, Houses of Parliament and many more, the race finally finishes on The Mall by Buckingham Palace.

Thousands of runners take part in the London Marathon, some elite runners, some celebraties and a lot of runner raising money for various charities and thousands of people Travel to London and stay in London Hotels and hostels in London, ready to watch the race by the roadside along the 26 mile course and millions of people watch the race either on TV.

There is also a number of runners known as the Ever Present, who have ran every London Marathon since it was founded in 1981 31 years ago, In 2010 there was 20 Ever Present Runners who finished the marathon, after this years Marathon the number is now 18 Ever Present Runners who have ran all 31 London Marathons since it began in 1981, their times range from 2 hours 51 minutes to 7 Hours 15 Minutes and their ages range from 50 to over 70.

The winner of the Mens 2011 London Marathon was Emmanuel Mutai of Kenya who ran the fastest ever London Marathon in 2 hours, 4 minutes, second place went to Martin Lel after beating Patrick Makau in a last minute dash for the finish line.

The ladies London Marathon race was won Keitany Mary Jepkosgei from Kenya she finishing in 2:19:17 she finished almost a minute ahead of defending champion Liliya Shobukhova who came second.
