City Nyahururu – A City in Central Kenya Located at Elevation

City Nyahururu in the Central Kenya is one of the highest places of the country. Despite of its closeness to the Equator, the city is known for its cool climate. History
Nyahururu was established as a town around the railway from Gilgil in the 1920s. The city was initially named Thompson Fall after the 72 m high waterfall in the outskirts of the city. Industries like timber milling and milk processing helped the city to advance and the tourism industry introduced it to the regular visitors to the country. Sometimes, the city is also referred to as T-fall.

Nyahururu is mainly known for the Thomson’s Fall, which was named after Joseph Thomson, a European traveller to the region in the 1880s. This 72 m high waterfall feeds the dense forests at its base and is known for the stunning views offered by it. Hippo point is another attraction that the city offers to its visitors.

Nyahururu is known for being an agricultural city and thus, one can enjoy the visits to nearby farms. Flower farming has become a popular occupation in the region and thus, it is a good experience to visit the flower farms, especially those cultivating the Suera flowers.
