Brisbane is the third largest city is Australia and the largest one in the state of Queensland. It is the capital of the state and is located in south-east region on the Brisbane River. History
Turrbal people were the first one to settle down in the city of Brisbane and called the area as Mian-jin. After that, the European settlement in the region started discovering various sites. It was in the 19th century that explorations led to the discovery of Brisbane River and various important regions around it. Brisbane was first discovered with the name of Edenglassie, but was soon given the present day name. In 1859, Queensland was declared as a separate colony and Brisbane as its capital. In 1902, Brisbane was incorporated as a city. After experiencing some disastrous events like World War II, the Battle of Brisbane and the Brisbane flood, the city progressed rapidly to become one of the most prosperous cities in Australia.

Popular Places
Mt Coot-tha is the tallest mountain in the city and one of the best tourist spots to visit. Apart from offering wonderful view of the city, the mountain also accommodates botanical gardens and a planetarium. New Farm Park is another interesting tourist sport, featuring rose gardens and long rows of jacaranda trees. Roma Street Parklands can be visited to explore nearly 2000 plant species. A number of theme gardens are also featured by the place.

Queensland Cultural Centre accommodates Queensland Museum, Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art and a number of other establishments. If you don’t want to miss the company of kangaroos, you can visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Alma Park Zoo and City Botanical Gardens are other great venues to be visited by the tourists.

Getting Around

Public transport facilities are offered by buses, trains and ferries a good guide to public transport is to keep some coins and small notes handy to pay the exact fares.
