Port Gentil city is situated in Gabon and is one of the leading sea ports of the country. With a population of around 80,000, it is the 2nd largest city in Gabon. Port Gentil is the main industrial hub of Gabon and is preferably linked via aerial route to other prime West African centres and Gabon townships. The city boasts of major export trade that includes products like petroleum, cacao, timber, fish and plywood.

History
It was the French who signed an agreement with the people of Orungu in the year 1873 and used Port Gentil as a base for various expeditions. It soon matured into a trading hub with the likes of Woermann, Compagnie d’Exploitations, Hatton & Cookson, John Holt, etc. The prime products used for trading purposes were namely ivory, rubber, okoume plywood. The township got its unique name from the famous French colonial Emile Gentil in the year 1900. After 1947 Port Gentil became popular for its Oil refinery SOGARA.
