Aberdeen – The Blooming Granite City

Aberdeen city in the north east of Scotland captivates visitors with its charming granite architecture, long coastal line and many colourful parks.

History:
Situated along the rivers Dee and Don, Aberdeen area is in existence for 8000 years. Post Napoleonic wars, the city progressed and subsequent to the discovery of North Sea Oil, it became the ‘oil capital of Europe’.

There are many castles in Aberdeen of which Glenbuchat Castle, which is the 16th century ruin, Huntly Castle, which boasts of exceptional heraldic sculpture, Cairness House with extraordinary construction, Crathes Castle, which was home to the Burnett family for 350 years, Dunnattor Castle, the most secure fortress are prominent. The award winning Aberdeen maritime museum gives an insight into the North Sea history while the farming museum depicts the farming history. Salmon Bothy gives a feel of the Salmon houses and also its museums exhibit fine collection of fishing industry. The sandy coastal line is one of the teemed places in Aberdeen. Macduff Marine Aquarium houses numerous local sea creatures and is very educative. Scotland’s first science centre, Satrosphere Science Centre with many interesting exhibits is another educational attraction.

Aberdeen has an international airport and is well connected by rail and road. Its harbour is also very active with many ferries plying frequently. City bus tours aid in exploring the place, while hired taxis are also available. Ferry ride from the harbour can be an exciting experience, no matter ho you choose to travel be sure to get a map to guide you round the city.
