Brief History

Before that, they had already abolished the prevalent slave trade in 1815. With the construction of the Dakar-Saint Louis Railway in 1885, it became an important port as well. Dakar was recognized as French commune in 1872. From 1978 onwards, it has been the point of Dakar Rally.
