Located on the right bank of Saloum River about 150 km southeast of Dakar, City Kaolac in Senegal is an ocean and river port. Major products exported from this port are peanuts and salt. An important regional market town, Kaolac houses around 172,305 people.

Brief History
Kaolac is the hub of one of the major branches of Islam called the Tijani order. Located in West Senegal, Kaolac is the capital of Kaolack Region. The city borders Gambia to the south. Successor city to Kahone which was the capital of the Kingdom of Saloum, it is marked by the sacred tree located on right bank of Saloum River. By mid 19th century under French domination it developed into a great trading centre. Consequentially it became the centre for Sufi orders.
Getting Around
Kaolac is linked by rail with Guinguineo that is located about 21 km to the north east by Dakar-Niger Railways. As the hub of road network to southern as well as eastern parts of Senegal, it connects most part of the country by road. There is no shuttle service available from the airport to and fro the city. Some hotels provide transportation from the airport. Taxis are there but they are expensive than other public transportations. Choosing a guide can be in your favour to make best out of your trip to the city.
Places of Interest
Kaolac is not a place of major tourist attractions. However, it is the exporting centre for peanut oil. Further, brewing, leather tanning, cotton ginning, as well as fish processing are some of the important industries running in the town. One place to visit is the Trjaniyya Mosque at the outskirts of the city.
