City of Lome in Togo - Industrial Centre and Chief Port of the Country
With a population of around 738,000, City Lome in Togo is the capital as well as the largest city in Togo. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, it is also the industrial centre and chief port in Togo. Coffee, copra, cocoa, palm kernels and oil refiner are the main industries in the port city.

Founded in the 18th century by Ewe people, the city saw tremendous growth in the twentieth and twenty first centuries. Growth was spectacular after independence of Togo from French domination in 1960. The growth of investments since 1975 resulted in rapid industrialization. Development of the city is taking place at almost breakneck speed.
Getting Around
For a hassle free arrival at Lome, one can approach the Lome-Tokoin Airport that acts as the gateway to the city. Former Bitta railway line can also lead to the airport. Aflao is the main border crossing from Ghana and the international airport has flights from Casablanca and Paris on a couple of days in a week. Main transport for getting around the city is Motos. In addition, there are route taxis and rental cars as well. However, a city guide would always suggest Motos as the best means of transport. Moving on the beach road running from Ghana to Benin would be a memorable experience for the visitor.
Places of Interests
One of the major interests in Lome is the market gardening taken up in large scales. Such gardening is concentrated on the beaches. Garbage collection, however, is a major problem in Lome.
