History
Around 3000 years back, Fiji was ruled by the Lapita people, thought to have come from the Western Pacific region, though their origin or legacy could not be understood fully Later the Melanesians and the Polynesians together created a highly developed society, prior to the arrival of the Europeans and the missionaries. When the Europeans set up their base at Fiji, the culture and religion of Fiji began to change under the influence of the European missionaries who converted the indigenous chiefs of Fiji into Christianity. In 1874 the islands were ceded to Great Britain, which brought about a marked change in the culture of this tiny island nation.
