City Margarita in Venezuela- The Pearl of the Caribbean
         
Margarita Island, the Pearl of the Caribbean, situated in the Caribbean Sea, is the largest of the three islands of the Nueva Esparta state in Venezuela. - The other two being the islands of Coche and Cubagua. Margarita has an excellent climate and beaches that are especially popular among the scuba divers.  The capital of this island is a sleepy colonial town of La Asunción, which is located in a picturesque river valley of the same name.

History
Christopher Columbus discovered Margarita Island in 1498. The Spaniards were the first to inhabit the island, making the locals their slaves. The city was fortified to ward off pirate threats. In 1814, the islanders revolted for independence from the Spanish, which resulted in Margarita becoming the first, permanently free territory in Venezuela.

Popular Places
There are many interesting places in this island. Explore some of the most dramatic landscapes of Venezuela in a boat to the foot of Angel Falls, the tallest waterfall in the world. The coral islands of Los Roques, is another attraction. In addition Margarita Island has many famous beaches like Playa La Galera and El Agua. Taxis are the cheapest and the most convenient option in the travel guide of this island, thanks to the dirty cheap gasoline prices! There are short –distance cheap domestic flights to the popular places like Angel falls and Los Roques. Regular public bus services are also good options to go around Margarita.
